Our Impact

Since our inception, we have had one goal:

to reduce poverty and its ill effects in the developing world by increasing access to capital and other financial services to those at the bottom of the economic pyramid.

Our Approach

We believe we can obtain strong financial returns by focusing on both financial and social returns. These are not mutually exclusive objectives. Specifically, we believe that providing access to financial services to the unbanked or underbanked promotes social good, assists in economic development, works toward gender equality, advances the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), and contributes toward human flourishing.

Measurement and Reporting

Our mission has always been centered around financial inclusion while maintaining a high level of transparency, especially when measuring our impact. With so many methodologies available in the impact space, we utilize the universally recognized IRIS+ taxonomy developed by the Global Impact Investing Network. This framework is mapped to the UN SDGs and includes over 700 distinct and standardized metrics covering governance, environmental footprint, and social impact.

To ensure our data collection process is rigorous and effective, we carefully select metrics that align with the impact industry and Creation’s targeted UN SDGs. Our team uses a custom impact reporting template with over 140+ qualitative and quantitative measures completed by our portfolio companies to capture these metrics.

Our impact reporting focuses on four key categories: clients, products, employees, and policies. We cover diverse aspects such as client demographics, the range of financial products offered, gender diversity within our portfolio companies, and adherence to policies concerning client protection and social responsibility. Each metric is mapped to UN SDGs utilizing the IRIS+ taxonomy, ensuring transparency and accountability.

While we use these metrics to quantify impact, we also recognize that the true depth of our impact and leadership is not fully captured through this reporting. We try to describe this broader impact in other ways, including through client stories, highlighting the human dimension of our work and the lasting change we help create.

The ImpactAssets 50™ (IA 50) is the first publicly available database that provides a gateway into the world of impact investing for donors and/or investors and their financial advisors, offering an easy way to identify experienced impact investment firms and explore the landscape of potential investment opportunities. The IA 50 is intended to illustrate the breadth of impact investment fund managers operating today, though it is not a comprehensive list. Firms have been selected to demonstrate a wide range of impact investing activities across geographies, sectors and asset classes. The IA 50 is not an index or investable platform and does not constitute an offering or solicitation to buy or sell securities or a private placement, or recommend specific products. Nor is this an endorsement of any of the listed fund managers. It is not a replacement for due diligence. To be considered for the IA 50 2024, fund managers needed to have at least $25 million in assets under management, more than three years of experience as a firm with impact investing, documented social and/or environmental impact and be available for US investment. Additional details on the selection process are available at https://impactassets.org/IA-50/. The IA 50 Emerging Impact Managers list is intended to spotlight newer fund managers to watch that demonstrate potential to create meaningful impact.
